Atari 7800 (PAL) TFW8b Composite Video Mod

Top hat removed.. This is the corner of the PCB we are interested in.

Remove L6, R32, R33, R62, Q8 as well as the modulator.

Atari 7800 (PAL) Composite Mod

To follow up on the 2600 mod, I've dug out a 7800 to see how the cheap and cheezy transistor based composite mod works out.

Right'o, so let's get on with it.

I like the look of these. #Snazzy

I didn't show this in the 2600 mod. Big old tin hat removed by twisting the metal tabs.

This is the bane of the life of the average 7800. The bloody stupid non standard dc connector. This unit doesn't have a matching PSU, so I'll be getting rid of this little shit quick smart.

2.1mm DC pinched from an #Broken Sinclair ZXSpectrum Plus 2. Wired up so I can use one of my own excellent center negitive ZXSpectrum 9v PSU's

Ok, so modulator removed. R32, R33, R62 and Q8 (Not sure if that ones really makes a difference). Link between R32-R33 should make POKEY work. (Untested) Video cable pinched from C64DTV :D

It's the same transistor mod as on the 2600..

Neat enouth. I'll be gutted when I run out of old C64DTV video cables..

So.. This is what it looked like before the mod. Frankly not too bad, bit of interference/ghosting but better than a 2600 rf by miles

And after the mod.. Oh yeah.. Thats seems clearer to me.

And just dandy on my Commodore 1701 :D
