Amiga 600 memory expansion corrosion repair

Another sold as tested ebay item my needs attention.

This thing is mangled!

It's rusty and has been attacked by a screwdriver.

Ok so this photo isn't so hot, but trust me.. These pins are green and furry.

So, I'm missing a few images here. How to opent he tabs. Well, you need a powerfull soldering iron and solder wick.

Not much of a suprise really. Batteries of this vintage leak.

Crusty! But it doesn't look too far gone. So how do you clean up a mess like this?

Just add a spash of the magic ingreadient and soak for a bit.

Nothing more than left over lemon juice thats been in the fridge since pancake day 1876

Soaked for around 15 mins, then attacked with an anti-static brush and eraser. Then rinsed in plenty of water to remove the the acid. Looks a bit better now huh.

Luckily, this end of the PCB is dead simple. No tracks have lifted.. Nothing to repair.

A little more magic. New coating of solder resist applied. One coat "Should" do it.

Well, thats me done for a while. Green stuff needs UV light to cure. Using this sort of bulb, it'll take a while.

Second coat applied and set. This stuff sets like glass, solvents or heat won't shift it!

Trust me, this first picture really didn't show how bad this connector looked. It's nice and shiny now tho!

New capacitors installed, sticky pad fitted to new battery, time to fit

Looks good to me!

And thats about it, well apart from soak testing. Time to clean up the metal work and reinstall the case.

I managed to straighten the case out reasonably well.

No more green contacts, looks a whole lot better now. Plus the clock remembers what friggin time it is!. Job done! :D
